Computer Science Teacher (Secondary School)

Reports to: Director of Digital Learning
Start Date: August 21, 2017

Purpose:
The Lycée Français is expanding its computer science program to support the teaching of problem-solving skills and computational thinking skills, as well as offering programming courses and interdisciplinary project-based courses.  The computer science teacher will guide the process of building curricula, teaching courses, and providing feedback for future directions of the program.

Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to the following

  • Teaching middle school mandatory computer science courses
  • Teaching high school elective courses
  • Serving as an advisor for 8-12 students
  • Leading after-school activities in the area of computer science
  • Working closely with the math department to explore elements of the French math curriculum that focus on computer science skills
  • Collaborating with the maker integrator to develop ties among computer science, fabrication, and engineering

Certification and Experience Requirements

  • Experience teaching computer science across many age groups

Development Associate

Summary

The Development Associate plays a pivotal role in the Lycée Français de New York’s Development department. Reporting to the Director of Development, with a dotted line to Manager of the Annual Fund, the Development Associate is a broad-based role that will contribute to the strategy and execution of all fundraising and community activities. In particular, the Associate assists the Director of Development in the administration of special projects with a focus on the York Wing Initiative, the Cultural Center, major gifts management, and the stewardship of the Lycée’s supporters. The Associate also helps with the daily administrative tasks of the Development Department and is an active participant in ensuring that the office functions effectively and efficiently, taking on additional responsibilities as needed. This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate looking to launch or develop a career in advancement to join a dynamic and successful fundraising team at a prestigious New York City independent school.

Essential Job Functions

The duties outlined below are considered to be the most significant responsibilities of the Development Associate and are essential for effective performance in this position. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Annual Fund, Major Gifts & Stewardship (60%)

  • Collaborate with the Director of Development, Senior Manager of Community Events, and Manager of the Annual Fund in the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of prospective and current donors
  • Serve as a liaison and work with volunteers/prospects to set up and schedule cultivation, solicitation and other meetings;
  • Prepare background and meeting materials ahead of York Wing campaign and other fundraising meetings;
  • Assist in the writing and preparation of major gifts proposals; track outgoing reports in the database; and ensure proper filing;
  • Under the direction of the Manager of the Annual Fund, acknowledge all Annual Fund gifts;
  • Acknowledge all capital, foundation and endowment gifts; and generate capital and endowment pledge reminders;
  • Maintain accurate Major Gift records, ensuring information is tracked and that Pledge Agreements, acknowledgements and reminders are sent within a timely manner;
  • Coordinate research for and draft stewardship reports, as needed, with a particular focus on York Wing and Cultural Center donors;
  • Collaborate with the Manager of the Annual Fund to develop written content targeted to the Lycée community;
  • Assist with phone calls and handwritten notes to meet fundraising goals at year-end;
  • Special projects for the Director of Development, as assigned.


Prospect Research (20%)

  • Responsible for prospect research work for the department, including the preparation of profiles for individual, corporate and foundation donors.

Administrative Support (20%)

  • Provide calendar support to the Director of Development;
  • Ensure the smooth functioning of the department, including maintaining the department calendar, ensuring the office is clean and organized, providing food and beverages for volunteer meetings; and other administrative tasks, as assigned;
  • Participate in weekly Department meetings;
  • Assist with Development and Annual Fund events as needed (managing RSVPs, helping with set-up, staffing the check-in table, etc.)
  • Serve as department point person for Cultural Center fundraising work, including maintaining lists of Cultural Center donors in Raiser’s Edge.
  • Serve as the Development department representative on the Calendar Committee.
  • Work with the Senior Manager, Annual Fund; the Senior Manager, Community Events and the Manager, Alumni Relations, to provide administrative support on occasion.
  • Staff the regular meetings of the Development Committee (prepare materials, take minutes, organize follow up).
  • Complete other duties as assigned and appropriate

Qualifications
Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required and a minimum of two years of professional experience in development or a related field.
  • Demonstrated capacity to manage relationships with high-level volunteers, donors and VIPs.
  • Prior experience working in a fast-paced environment managing multiple demands and priorities.
  • A collaborative spirit and strong team ethic.

Assistant Manager, Community Events

Summary

The Assistant Manager, Community Events plays a pivotal role in the Lycée Français de New York’s (LFNY) Development department. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Community Events, the Assistant Manager is a broad-based role that will contribute to the strategy and execution of all fundraising and community events, as well as donor cultivation events. The Assistant Manager will also serve as an active member of the Development Team, collaborating on fundraising initiatives across the group and taking on additional responsibilities as needed.

 

Essential Job Functions

The duties outlined below are considered to be the most significant responsibilities of the Assistant Manager of Community Events and are essential for effective performance in this position. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

LFNY Gala (40%):

  • Support the Senior Manager, Development team, and school volunteers with LFNY’s signature fundraising event, the annual Gala, which raises over $2 million annually in support of the school;
  • Working closely with the Senior Manager, implement goals and objectives regarding overall corporate participation, attendance, communication, and day/night of event logistics;
  • Manage all aspects pertaining to the auction including, outreach, data entry, and gift acknowledgement; maintain an accurate record of all items received, together with descriptions and values of all items;
  • Collaborate with an outside vendor to upload all auction information onto our mobile bidding site;
  • Oversee post-auction wrap-up including notifying all winners, collecting payment and managing auction item pickup;
  • Enter and maintain data in the appropriate data management programs; includes coding and entering donations/pledges, sponsorships, auction items and income, participants, volunteers and other required information to support the event;
  • Utilize data management tools in order to review and analyze pertinent information – monitor financials, solicits participation, and provides ongoing status reports;
  • Prepare correspondence, reports, spreadsheets, informational materials, and presentations using various graphic, database and word processing programs;
  • Plan and implement event-related activities individual giving, auctions and special appeals;
  • Identify candidates for volunteer roles. Recruit qualified candidates and articulate goals, outcomes and objectives to support activities leading up to and the day of the event.
  • Partner with Finance department to process and resolve event/project related expenses.

Community Events (40%):

  • Working closely with the Senior Manager, plan and execute 4 - 5 major community events, including Welcome Fair, Fall Community Day, Fall Festival, Skating Party and Spring Fair and associated smaller events, such as Volunteer Thank You Cocktail/Breakfast and Pre-Gala Cocktail;
  • Provide support and training to volunteers for these events;
  • Lead partnership with Parents‘ Association on planning for these events;
  • Collaborate with the Senior Manager to track deliverables and develop reports to ensure
  • compliance in coordination with the Director of Development and the Finance Department.
  •  

Donor Cultivation (20%):

  • Working closely with volunteers, plan and execute 6 – 10 small-scale cultivation events annually in volunteers’ homes or private clubs;
  • Send invitations, manage RSVP process, create and circulate an event brief, manage guests’ requests, and ensure the smooth execution of these events;
  • Partner with the Annual Fund to identify and cultivate high-potential prospective donors;
  • Represent LFNY to donors, prospects, volunteers and other key constituents.
  • Complete other duties as assigned and appropriate

 

Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 3 - 4 years of experience in event management, with a demonstrated capacity to manage relationships with high-level volunteers, donors and VIPs

Database Manager
